Hello

I have a question about the DSM release candidate.

The notes mention that 1GB memory is recommended as otherwise, the device may experience a performance impact.

Unfortunately, we are using a DS218j which ships with 512MB RAM and which cannot be upgraded - I have read that the memory is soldered into the mainboard.

We use the NAS as an on-site backup device. Each day new and changed data is copied to the device. This is all it is used for.

Packages installed:
File Station 1.2.7-0285
OAuth Service 1.0.4-0030
Universal Search 1.5.0-0305

Last night I monitored resource usage while a backup was taking place. The CPU usage ranged between 40% - 50% and the RAM usage barely changed from the normal operating level of 24% - 30%

I would like to know if upgrading to DSM 7 when it is formally released will have a detrimental impact considering our present usage. Because this device holds a copy of our business data applying the latest upgrade with security improvements is important.

Please note that this device was set up for us - I have no experience with a NAS device beyond ensuring the device is in a healthy condition.

I understand that with this being a release candidate operating parameters are likely to change but if we can get away with installing the latest system updates without compromising performance too much that would be great.

Thank you.
